Heywood Hill

A mayfair literary icon

Heywood Hill has been selling books for over 80 years. But despite being a London institution, sales were falling as it struggled to compete with the likes of Amazon. The team at Heywood Hill asked us to help reverse its fortunes by creating a website to transform its online offering, grow online sales and encourage visitors to the shop.

Heywood Hill

Transforming a literary institution

Heywood Hill is globally renowned both for its literary history and for delivering expert personal service. The website has been designed to reflect this reputation.

Giving the visitor an instant sense of the bookshop’s character and heritage, the site delivers a virtual tour of Heywood Hill through the extensive use of photography. It sells carefully selected items, displays antiquarian acquisitions and introduces the shop’s range of literary services, including library building and its coveted Year in Books subscription.

"Our website does exactly what we wanted it to do. We think it's stylish and beautiful - as do our customers. It launched on time and on budget and we started receiving orders the moment it went live. SAV is a very impressive outfit."

Since the site's launch, online sales have increased by 700% and the shop's team regularly dispatches book parcels to customers in over 60 countries worldwide. The custom-built CRM that sits behind the website helps Heywood Hill's staff to process both online and offline orders, keeps a record of customer preferences and facilitates the delivery of over 700 personalised Year in Book subscriptions every month.
