Renewable Energy Sites

About

The Renewable Energy Association represents producers of renewable energy and promotes the use of all forms of renewable energy in the UK.

The organisation covers the full spectrum of renewable energy technologies: power, heat, transport and renewable gas.

The brief

We've worked with the REA for over six years on various website and online software projects, including the Green Gas Certification Scheme. Recently they asked us to create a series of new websites to represent the energy technology groups and related certification schemes within their organisation.

Each website needed to have a news archive and an events calendar that could be regularly updated by the team at the REA. Each site would also feature a password protected members area, where members can access private content.

The sites would have a unity of design to tie the divisions together, but which would still allow them to retain an individual identity.

Our solution

So far we've created the main REA website, and sites for the Biogas division, the REAL Assurance Scheme and the Biofertiliser Certification Scheme, with more currently in development.

The look and feel of each site is slightly different yet distinct, designed to illustrate the individual characteristics and specialism of the division. There is a commonality of design however, that ensures that REA's overarching brand remains recognisable.

The sites have an easy-to-use CMS that allows the updating of news and events, and the uploading of content to the members area. The main REA site also has a jobs board and a site-wide CMS that allows the team to update all body copy across the website.

The REAL site features a bespoke membership application system. The REAL receive a significant number of membership applications on a daily basis and the sheer volume was becoming increasingly difficult to manage as the popularity of the organisation increased. To help speed up the process and make everything much easier for the team, we created a system that would allow visitors to apply for membership online. This not only includes the capture of company information but also compliance checks, declarations and an online payment system.
