Diana Maynard

Diana has worked as a goldsmith and commission jeweller for many years. She studied Industrial Design, specialising in silver. Since co-founding a Silver Jewellery manufacturing company that produced work for companies such as Liberty, she has transferred her attention to more precious materials.

Diana has an impressive list of clients around the world and her reputation continues to spread.

The brief

As a designer and jeweller, Diana wanted her site to inspire new clients, give them ideas and help them express themselves when it came to the consultation process. As a businesswoman, Diana wanted to keep a high level of control over content, being able to update and amend images and information without having to call us every single time.

Our solution

Simplicity, elegance and clarity... all words that Diana used when describing what she wanted from her website. The site itself uses as few colours as possible - we wanted to create a canvas for Diana's work, not swamp it.

Easy to navigate galleries allow users to view high quality images of individual pieces - simple standards-based and accessible coding ensures that the site is fast and viewable by almost every potential client, no matter the speed of their internet connection.

As all pieces are commissions, it was deemed unnecessary to clog the site up with an online store - Diana's business is based around time in person with her customers and each piece is designed around an individual.

The copy style is friendly and personal, again reflecting Diana's ethos of fun through professionalism - for many clients the piece they are commissioning may be one of the most important things they buy (weddings and engagements can be especially stressful if you get the wrong ring) so making clients feel at home is incredibly important.

Content Management System

We wanted to provide Diana with a showcase for her work, and she was determined that she should be able to manage it in the same straightforward way she manages her business.

To do this we used some of our software more commonly seen in online shops. SAV Content Manager is an incredibly simple, user friendly application which allows even the most strident technophobe to update and change content without having to know any of that dull code.

The system uses clear, straightforward screens that identify what goes where and how to do it. It walks any changes through, step-by-step, showing all of the content that is currently on the website in an online form. Simply make the changes, add new images (it lets you browse your computer) and click 'update'. It's no harder than using e-mail, and the site changes go live immediately.

This system gives our clients' sites the flexibility to meet new needs or simply stay up-to-date. In Diana's case, it shows what pieces are currently displayed on the site [screenshot 1] and allows her to edit the details or add new photos [screenshot 2].
